Mṛjā Collective chose Ura Maku for its unique blend of cultural reverence and commitment to sustainable fashion. Founded by Manjushree Saikia, who hails from the upper valleys of Assam, Ura Maku embodies her deep connection to Assamese textiles and folk cultures. After graduating from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and traveling across India’s craft clusters, Saikia was inspired by the artisans’ skills and values, which reinforced her dedication to mindful design. Ura Maku, meaning "to fly" and "shuttle" in Assamese, symbolises the brand's fusion of timeless, tailored clothing with handwoven, handcrafted textiles. Their focus on simplicity, shape, texture, and proportion creates a stylish, future-forward apparel line that honours cultural heritage while embracing sustainable practices. This alignment with Mṛjā Collective’s ethos of thoughtful, enduring fashion made Ura Maku a perfect fit for our curated collection.
