The beauty of flowers lies in their fleeting nature—a bloom admired, often to wilt moments later. Their essence is ephemeral, not meant to be held onto forever. But what if the impermanence of petals could find new life? Lafaani’s Meadows offers an answer rooted in reverence and reinvention.
Growing up, Dhristhi, the co-founder of Lafaani, was always drawn to stories of people, of how things came to be. This curiosity evolved into working with diverse communities—farmers, artisans, waste pickers, and social workers—across India. For this collection, they worked closely with grassroots organisations like Adiv Pure Nature, Mahila Handloom Udyog Kendra and Karghewale. The artisanal communities came together to procure discarded flower offerings from Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak Temple and Peer Haji Ali Dargah, weaving what was once destined to decay into fabrics meant to be worn, layered, and lived in.
Summer Textiles, Reimagined
What we saw in the Meadows collection was a reverent revival of slow-made summer textiles—Mul Chanderi, Kora Kala Cotton, and handwoven denim—brought to life through hand-painting and eco-printing with botanical pigments. The temple flowers became the quiet architects of the Meadows palette—soft sage, deep olive, marigold yellow, and hints of sky blue. Meadows is an invitation to slow down, and in doing so, it arrives as a quiet companion to summer. Lightweight and breathable, the pieces feel just right for long brunches, soft garden weddings, balmy evening strolls, or weekend getaways. Imagine Meadows Handpainted Dress, crafted in soft mulmul decorated flowing with you as you move. Maybe layered with a soft scarf, silver anklets, or a simple tote and sandals. The joy is in its fluidity—it moves with you, wherever summer takes you.
The Forest Floor in a Stitch
Lafaani’s embroidery work in Meadows reflects the quiet comfort of nature. Embroidery blooms like memories—delicate, intentional, eternal. One of the collection’s most striking elements is the intricate needlework that mimics moss on a forest floor. Using techniques like 3D embellishments, French knots, bullion knots, and Kantha stitches, the detailing evokes a graceful bend of wildflowers in the breeze.
A founders' favourite, the Meadows Unisex Cropped Jacket showcases this dedication to craft. Textured and earthy, its embroidery appears to grow organically across the surface, a subtle tribute to nature’s patience and imperfection. Designed to be unisex and 'layerable', made in a handwoven, undyed denim that carries both structure and softness.
